Terms of Service
Last updated 24 August 2026
The agreement between your family and MyFirstLap. We have kept it short and readable, because terms nobody reads protect nobody.
1. Who these terms are between
These terms apply between MyFirstLap and the parent or legal guardian booking lessons. By booking a lesson you confirm you are the parent or guardian of the child, or are authorised by them, and that you accept these terms on their behalf.
2. What we provide
Private, one-to-one swimming instruction at a pool you nominate — typically your condominium pool or a public pool near you. We are a coaching service, not a lifeguarding or childcare service. We do not supervise your child before or after their lesson.
3. Booking, quotes and trials
- We quote your rate in writing before any lesson is booked. The quote reflects your pool, lesson length and frequency.
- Lessons begin with a single trial lesson. There is no obligation to continue.
- After the trial, lessons are booked in small blocks. There is no long-term contract, no joining fee and no minimum term.
4. Payment
Fees are payable per block of lessons. We do not sell packages in advance and we do not hold a credit balance for you.
Accepted payment methods and settlement timing are confirmed in your written quote.
5. Rescheduling and cancellation
- By you: give us at least 24 hours' notice and the lesson is moved, not lost. Cancellations inside 24 hours may be charged in full, because the coach and the pool slot are already committed.
- By us: if a coach cannot attend, we will offer a substitute coach or reschedule. You are never charged for a lesson we cannot deliver.
- Stopping: you can stop at any time between blocks. There is no notice period and nothing to cancel.
6. Weather and pool closures
Lessons are cancelled for lightning risk, thunderstorms or pool closure, and are rescheduled at no charge. Light rain alone is not a cancellation. We follow the pool operator's or condominium management's decision, and safety is never negotiable.
7. Pool access and your responsibilities
You are responsible for securing your coach's access to your pool, including any guest registration, visitor pass or management approval your condominium requires. We will help you arrange this — just ask. You agree to comply with your pool's rules, and you must tell us if the pool is unavailable.
A parent or responsible adult must remain contactable and on the premises for the whole lesson where the child is a minor.
8. Health and safety
- You must tell us, before the first lesson, about any medical condition, allergy, medication, disability or behavioural need that affects your child in the water.
- Do not bring a child to a lesson if they are unwell, have an ear infection, or have had diarrhoea or vomiting in the previous 48 hours.
- Our coaches hold current lifesaving and CPR + AED qualifications. Swimming still carries inherent risk, and we cannot eliminate it.
- A coach may end a lesson early on safety grounds — unsafe water, unsafe behaviour, or a child in distress.
9. Our promise, and its limits
If the coach we match is not right for your child, tell us and we will match you with a different one, or you simply do not continue. What we cannot promise is a timeline: children learn to swim at very different rates, and any estimate we give is an honest guess, not a guarantee.
10. Photographs and video
We will not photograph or film your child, or publish any image of them, without your separate written permission. You may withdraw that permission at any time. Please respect the same rule for other families at the pool.
11. Liability
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. Beyond that, our total liability to you is limited to the fees you have paid us for the lessons concerned. We are not responsible for personal property lost or damaged at the pool.
12. Conduct
We may decline or end a booking where a coach is subjected to abusive behaviour, where safety instructions are ignored, or where fees remain unpaid after we have asked twice.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The version that applies to you is the one published when you booked your current block of lessons.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Singapore, and the courts of Singapore have exclusive jurisdiction.
15. Talking to us first
If something goes wrong, tell us before you escalate it. Message WhatsApp +65 9233 3099 or call +65 9233 3099. Most problems are a scheduling misunderstanding and take one conversation to fix.
Note. These terms are a plain-English draft based on how MyFirstLap actually operates. Have them reviewed by a Singapore-qualified adviser before you rely on them, and delete this note once you have.
